U.S. natural gas inventories continue to weigh on prices with today's EIA reported, larger-than-expected 92 Bcf injection for the week ended April 19th. After a decade of seemingly endless and cheap domestically produced gas, 2024 appears to be establishing the "shale floor" for bargain shoppers. Looking ahead, more exports, less opportunities for fuel-switching, and supply bottlenecks will contribute to very tight balances and much higher energy bills for consumers.
U.S. natural gas inventories are brimming on the heels of an exceedingly warm winter. The supply and demand imbalance has cratered #natgas prices, which are flirting with all-time lows. Could this be the last hurrah for low-cost shale gas? Read The Quarterly: https://bit.ly/3TSMBL1

I'm looking forward to presenting the outlook for the wheat market at the Livestock Marketing Information Center Spring Industry Outlook tomorrow in Kansas City, MO. Although world wheat stocks are tight, Chicago wheat prices have fallen 44% over the last two years as Russia floods the market with record exports made even more affordable with a weakening Ruble. Low corn prices have also pulled wheat prices lower. Hot and dry conditions in both the U.S. and Russia, though, could change the story for wheat. #grain #wheat #Russia #Ruble CoBank

It was a privilege to host the Honorable Vincent Logan, chairman and CEO of the Farm Credit Administration, at CoBank Center in Denver this week for conversations about the importance of innovation to the future of financial services and financial services regulation. One stop on Chairman Logan’s tour of the bank was the antique “flywheel” machine on display in our lobby – a 1915 Mogul engine manufactured by International Harvester Company. At the turn of the last century, the gas-powered flywheel machine was cutting-edge technology that helped farmers automate a wide range of hard manual processes, from pumping water to milking cows to threshing grain. #flywheel
