About the Colorado Water Congress

The Colorado Water Congress was established in 1958 to provide leadership on key water resource issues and serve as the principal voice of Colorado’s water community.

Our belief is that the state of Colorado’s water impacts the state’s overall well-being.  We are dedicated to successful promotion of policy that supports high-quality, sustainable water supplies through protection of water rights, conservation, planning, management and infrastructure investment.  As such, we strive for thoughtful and equitable development and administration of water laws, regulations, and compacts.

Member-driven

Our members represent the diverse interests and opinions of the nine Colorado River Basins.  They power the organization's success through their diverse opinions and collective, nonpartisan voice.

We are dedicated to providing an open forum for members to share information, form positions and advocate for a strong, effective and fair state water program.  Water Congress staff and members work together to represent every watershed in Colorado and every type of beneficial water use to state and national policy makers.

Our Commitment

The Water Congress and its members are dedicated to:

  • Fair representation of every watershed in Colorado and every type of beneficial water use.
  • Clear communication of relevant, accurate and timely information.
  • Active engagement of our members through education, collaboration and networking.

Success Rate

It is rare that a bill opposed by the Water Congress membership is ever signed by a Colorado governor.  Our voice carries from the Colorado State Capitol to Washington D.C. where we help to shape water-specific legislation at the federal level.

  • The Colorado Water Congress State Affairs Committee boasts a 90% success rate for the 2014 Legislative session.
  • Since 1981, the Colorado Water Congress has logged a success rate of 85% on state water-related legislation that the Water Congress has endorsed.
